Frequently Asked Questions
Anything you feel comfortable discussing. At Heartwork Services we aim to provide a safe place where you are free to talk about anything that is on your mind. The idea behind Counselling is to support you to process how you are feeling.
This is a common misconception about Counselling. Although there are people with mental illnesses who benefit from Counselling it is by no means a prerequisite for attending. Counselling is safe place for you to air your thoughts and process how you are feeling. This could be for a range of reasons other than a mental health condition such as the loss of loved one or the breakdown of a relationship.
If you are worried that you are suffering from a mental health condition, in the first instance, we would encourage you to arrange an appointment with your GP. It is possible that your GP may recommend Counselling as an option but there are other supports a GP can offer which you may require.
When you attend Heartwork Services we aim to handle your needs with trust, understanding and sensitivity. We are committed to providing a bespoke service to each of our clients tailored to their individual needs. We employ evidence-based approaches in the therapy we offer which has proven benefits.
Our Counsellor is a member of the British Association of Counselling and Psychotherapy (BACP). This means that our Counsellor is fully qualified having undertaken a degree in Counselling with appropriate training and supervision throughout. Counsellors who are members of the BACP must adhere to their strict standards of professionalism and ethics.
If you feel worried or anxious about attending your first counselling appointment you are not alone. This is common and if you have never attended counselling before it's not unusual to be unsure about the unknown. For some people it helps to know a little bit about what happens at the first session.
At Heartwork Services we view the first session as an opportunity for you to get to know your Counsellor to find out if you feel like they are the right Counsellor for you. The first session also provides an opportunity for you to tell the Counsellor why you are attending Counselling and what you are hoping to get out of it. After the first session if you decide to proceed with Counselling this information will allow our Counsellor to consider how best to support you and they may provide you with options about how best to do this.
Yes. Heartwork Services will respect your privacy. What you say to your counsellor is confidential. Our Counsellor is bound by the code of ethics of her profession to keep what you tell her confidential. For further details about this you can look at the Privacy and Confidentiality page on our website or our privacy policy.
Normally we will recommend that you attend Counselling on a weekly basis at the same time each week. However, we can offer flexibility when required. For instance, if you are working shifts.
This depends on a client's individual needs. We offer a bespoke service and assess every client differently. We can start off with an agreed number of sessions and then review matters at a later stage. You will be able to find out more about how we can help at your initial consultation.
